THE EFFECT OF SELECTED ANTI-EPILEPTIC DRUGS ON THE MALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM

Epilepsy is one of the more frequent diseases of the central nervous system that often requires long-term treatment. Th e aim of the work is to present, on the basis of literature review, the infl uence of selected anti-epileptic drugs (LPP) on the male reproductive system. Published research proves that so-called „old” LPP may aff ect the sexual function, sex hormone levels and semen quality. New generation drugs appear to have not much negative eff ects in this area, although there are only few studies assessing this problem, and those that are available have been conducted among a small number of patients. Th erefore, further studies are needed to assess the relationships between LPP and male reproductive system.
