The paper presents the current knowledge on the causes, diagnostic process, differential diagnosis, and treatment in men diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia. It shows how to carry out laboratory diagnostics of hyperprolactinemia and avoid possible pitfalls related to blood sampling and methods of prolactin determinations. It is indicated which cases of hyperprolactinemia should be treated and when hyperprolactinemia should be considered clinically insignificant.
